Text: Matthew 28:18-20, John 10:10

Introduction:
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to be evangelists, spreading the Good News of salvation to a lost and dying world. Building capacity in evangelism requires intentionality, dedication, and a clear understanding of our role in fulfilling the Great Commission. In this sermon, we’ll explore the 5 F’s of evangelism, equipping us to effectively share the Gospel and make disciples.
The 5 F’s:
- Find the Lost (Matthew 28:19-20, Luke 19:10)
We are called to find those who are lost and lead them to Christ. Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). He also said, “The Son of Man came to seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10). - Feel for Them (Colossians 3:12, 1 Peter 3:8)
We are to feel compassion and love for those around us, empathizing with their struggles and needs. Paul writes, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion” (Colossians 3:12). Peter encourages us to “be sympathetic” (1 Peter 3:8). - Feed the Flock (1 Peter 2:2, Matthew 4:4)
We are to feed the flock with the Word of God, nourishing them in their faith. Peter writes, “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” (1 Peter 2:2). Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). - Foster Fervent Disciples (Romans 12:11, 2 Timothy 2:2)
We are to foster disciples who are fervent in their love for God and others. Paul writes, “Never lacking in zeal, but fervent in spirit, serving the Lord” (Romans 12:11). We are to train them to be passionate about their faith and equipped for ministry. - Fruitful (John 15:5, Galatians 5:22-23)
We are to bear fruit in our walk with God, demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit. Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit” (John 15:5). Paul writes, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23).
God’s Heart for Us
As we serve God and share the Gospel, remember:
- God is not looking for who to use but whom to bless (Exodus 23:25).
- God is not looking for who to abuse, but who to make whole (Proverbs 13:17, 2 Corinthians 5:19-20).
- God is not looking for who to enslave but who to enthrone (Daniel 12:3, Acts 26:22, Acts 28:5-6).
- God is not looking for who to humiliate but who to honor (Proverbs 14:28).
- God is not looking for whom to disgrace but whom to empower for triumphant living (Luke 10:17-19).
- God is not looking for who to rob but who to enrich (Job 36:11, Psalm 34:10).
- God is not looking for who to deprive but who to engage for their supernatural turnaround.
Conclusion:
As we conclude this sermon, let us remember that building capacity in evangelism requires a commitment to the 5 F’s: finding the lost, feeling for them, feeding the flock, fostering fervent disciples, and bearing fruit. May we be empowered by the Holy Spirit to fulfill the Great Commission, making disciples of all nations and bringing glory to our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us go forth and share the Gospel with compassion, love, and purpose, trusting in the One who has called us to this great task.
